  • Paper Jewels Part Two 15:57 - 9.03.2007

The Gazelle and the Wild Hyenas

Mind you, I was only a boy when I witnessed this with my very own eyes.  You see, we humans have the perception that we are of a higher nature than the animals, that we hold some special position in the cosmos, an exclusivity that makes us honorable, civilized.  Little do most men know that many animals feel the same way.  They are amazed at the pomp and circumstance that accompanies human kings and they mock our continuing quarrels and wars.

  • Paper Jewels, Part One 15:25 - 4.02.2007

    By Tavis J. Hampton

A dimly lit flame danced atop a candle in the evening breeze. It was all that separated those in the gathering from complete darkness on that moonless night. The Storyteller seemed to float above the fog-covered ground, taking a seat in front of his already captivated audience. Four young men, or perhaps they would be called boys in our world, settled themselves in anticipation of the fable that was about to be woven into their minds like a loom that slowly gives birth to a new exquisite rug.

"Where is Nestor?" the Storyteller unexpectedly grumbled.

One of the young men, Elian, pointed into the misty eastern darkness. "He is in the tower, preparing for a test. He wanted you to know he's sorry he could not make it tonight."

"If only he had known," remarked the Storyteller.

    "Known what, Storyteller?"

"The story of Babak, the lost dervish."

  • Author Interview 15:47 - 18.12.2006

Tavis J. Hampton, author of the Golden Scrolls, has been featured at Leicester Review of Books and Blogcritics.org in an interview conducted by Ambrose Musiyiwa.  The interview highlights his inspiration for writing The Golden Scrolls, his goals for future writing, and some aspects of his personal life.

  • New Features 15:33 - 21.11.2006

Here are a few new things that you can expect on the web site in the next week or so:

    1. Character/Location database:  We will have profiles of all of the characters, locations, and terminology.  This will aide me in future books and you in whatever fan-fiction you create.  It will be a little touchy at first because the database will be taken from my notes and sketches.  Hopefully, it will improve.  We will accept art from website members.  So feel free to draw characters, locations, etc.

    2. Community:  We now have a community setup where you can register and have extra benefits.  Once we have more readers, we'll develop a forum, but that is probably not needed now.

    3. Fan-fiction:  This is already live.  If you register, you'll be able to post your writing on our site.

    4. Maps:  Yeah, I know this should already be up.  I have the map that I used when I was writing, but it's not very impressive.  So, I want to take time to make it better.  As soon as it's done, I'll post it.  I promise.  (God willing).

That's all for now!  Oh, one other thing, if you've read the book, please write a review.  You can send it to us or post it directly on amazon.com or some other bookstore site.

  • In bookstores 15:27 - 13.11.2006

The Golden Scrolls is now available for purchase at a number of bookstores around the world, including Amazon.com .

For a list of availability, click here .  Please note that there might be some stores not on the list.  The best way to find out if your favorite store has the book is to ask.

As far as I know, it's not on any in-store shelves yet.  That will hopefully come when we begin our marketing campaign.

If you have read the book, please write a short review of it so that we can share your love of The Golden Scrolls with the world.

  • New Book Cover 15:02 - 29.09.2006

As you can see, I changed the cover for the book. What can I say? When I looked over the old cover, I just was not completely satisfied, and I decided not to settle. It would be a great cover, but the image resolution just was not high enough. It left it with a grainy kind of look to it. There was nothing I could do to fix it, short of flying to Germany and taking a new photo. That was simply not going to happen.

So, enter the new cover. Before you ask, I have no idea who the model is on the front. It is just a stock photo that I purchased. If you would like the photographer’s information, I can send that to you. As to what character she represents, I will leave that a mystery, at least for now. But for those of you who read the book and want to guess, I would be happy to hear your guesses.

About The Golden Scrolls
Fuad, a young boy from the kingdom of Cor, must leave his home to travel the Known World in search of the legend his heart believes to be true. The Golden Scrolls, written thousands of years ago, could hold the answers to the mysterious darkness that has been consuming kingdoms, with Cor in its path. But is the legend true or simply another fable of the renowned Storyteller? The fate of civilization depends upon the courage and faith of a boy. Is he the Chosen One?
